You Are a Technician Trying to Run a Business
Page 107

The term “Technician” is from Michael Gerber’s classic The E-Myth Revisited and refers to one of three personalities that business owners usually assume - the Technician, the Entrepreneur, and the Manager. Most of us are a mixture of all three.

The Technician is defined as someone who is tactical, or technical, in nature. They are the doers. They love “the work”.

The “E-Myth”, coined by Gerber, is the Entrepreneurial Myth, which states that Entrepreneurs start most businesses. This is described as a myth by Gerber because, in reality, the majority of businesses are started by Technicians.

IN THE BOOK I dive deeper into the different personalities and help you discover which one is most describes you and what the implications are to your business.

One Possible Solution Offered in The Termite Effect:

  • If you are a Technician, hire a Manager to run the day-to-day operations of the business and sprinkle in an Entrepreneur to inject some creativity into the business.
